A Functional Road Map

I call myself a Thyroid Detective because like a detective, I piece together clues of what happened at the scene of your health crime. By understanding what happened to you, we can work together to find solutions unique to your situation.

Taking a food and lifestyle as medicine approach, I teach you how to take Baby Step actions that greatly reduce or eliminate symptoms while enhancing overall health.

Clues lead to a successful healing journey:

Think of your health journey like a road trip. For example, if you’re taking a road trip from MN to FL, it’s going to take time. Factor time into your health restoration expectations.

You may run into traffic jams or detours. Pit stops are required along the way for fuel and restroom breaks. It’s impossible to see from Point A to Point B when departing on your journey.

You start out by consulting a road map, or a fellow traveler, to find the fastest or most desirable route. Maybe you want to take a slower pace to enjoy the scenery. Most people do a little of both on their healing journey.

Remember, there are no quick fixes along the way. Healing takes time, but the benefits along the way are rewarding and worth it.

  • Before starting any journey it’s important to think about WHY you want to start. How will your life look when you experience less pain, more energy, reduced gas & bloating, better blood sugar control and contentment with the way you look? What are your Inspiring Factors?

  • Sometimes the journey gets long and tedious. It’s easier to keep going when the road gets bumpy if you remember your Inspiring Factors.

  • Keep your destination in clear view when habit changes become challenging.

  • Everyone is Unique

    • We start your journey with a health assessment that creates a road map of where you want to go. Your personalized Timeline & Matrix are the maps providing guidance along the way.

    • You encounter detours. You may need to pivot. Maybe foods you eat daily are creating pot holes in your roads. Maybe poor sleep habits are driving you into the ditch. Maybe negative relationships are deflating your tires. Detours are clues unique to each individual.

    • What happens if you run into road construction along the way? Life happens. Learn the art of listening to your body so you can find an alternate route to success.

    • Resume your chartered course after any detour. Focus on making progress rather than perfection.

  • Everything is Connected

    • Learn how a whole person, systems based approach to care is essential for success. Every system in the body is connected to every other system.

    • For example, your roadmap might reveal that gut health is impacting immunity, hormones, detoxification, inflammatory response and brain chemicals.

    • Thyroid hormone production is directly impacted by gut, brain, immunity and inflammatory responses.

    • Stress derails many people because of its role in thyroid hormone balance, brain & sex hormone production, gut health, immunity, relationships and inflammatory responses.

    • Structural problems may impact gut, hormones or immune response.

    • Everything in the body, mind and soul is connected.

    • Good news: by starting to fix one system, other systems often start returning to optimal function. For example: By fixing underlying gut problems, immunity improves. Hormone production returns to function. Detoxification pathways open up. Unrelated symptoms start resolving.

    • Bad news: failure to fix underlying problems often contributes to creation of new symptoms down the road. New potholes or detours contribute to more pain or dysfunction.

  • Everything you do matters

    • Every forkful

    • Every time you make sleep a priority

    • Every time you increase water consumption

    • Every time you add movement to your day

    • Every time you increase oxytocin by hugging your spouse, partner, child or pet

    • Every time you relax by spending time in nature

    • Every time you spend time with friends & family

    • Daily mindful or spiritual practices

    • Baby Step actions put you on the road to thyroid restoration and vibrant health.

Baby Steps to symptom resolution

  • Your healing journey begins with the first Baby Step you take. Don’t worry about seeing the whole road ahead. One step at a time will get you where you want to go.

  • Just like a map is helpful getting you from Point A to Point B, it’s helpful to have someone riding shotgun with you. It makes the journey more enjoyable. Find a travel companion who can help set your pace and navigate your route.

Baby Steps look like:

  • Adding in healing foods and lifestyle practices.

  • Clearing muddy waters. It’s hard to see what’s going on in your body if the waters are muddy. What does that mean?

    • There’s a reason your body is reacting the way it is. Uncover what that means for you. It might mean removing foods or habits that no longer serve you.

    • Symptom relief often begins in this phase. Removing foods or habits that act like nails in the tires of your health reduces inflammation. Enjoy more energy, less pain and symptom reduction.

  • Doing the work consistently strengthens all body systems.

  • Celebrating your wins every step of the way. Feeling better is great cause for celebration.

Are you ready for a road trip? If you are, I’m here to ride shotgun with you.

Life is precious. Don’t miss out on special times with family and friends because you’re tired, in pain, depressed or feel crappy. See positive shifts in a short time by applying functional nutrition principles.
